REWINDING A BRUSHED MOTOR???

This area is for projects that dont fit in anywhere else. Projects need to be related to R/C cars, aircraft and watercraft

Mike, going from a 19,000 rpm to 30,000 rpm motor would mean putting in a smaller pinion. Higher gear ratio numerically, say going from 10:1 overall ratio to 12:1 ratio (motor revolutions/axle revolution).

why would you put in a smaller pinion gear with a higher RPM motor? the more RPMS the faster the 10 tooth stock pinon is going to spin making the truck faster........ I had one of these trucks a long time ago and used to run the stock 540 motor which only spun 16000 rpms ( slow ) and went to a 16 turn and it was faster!
so why put a smaller pinion on with a higher RPM motor?? again i can only drop 2 teeth if i special order a pinion for a CLOD... that is not making any sense to me...

If I'm not mistaken, it's like putting a smaller prop on a high rpm motor vs a larger prop on a slower motor in a plane. You're matching power/torque/rpm to a load.

well putting a smaller prop on a plane will lower the amp draw and give your higher rpms so that i understand, so if i cant lower my pinion size then i have to get batteries that can handle that amp draw correct?

Well, if the motor is way faster and overgeared, then it will struggle to get up to speed and overheat. 12:1 is good for fast-ish motors and down to 10:1 is good for slower motors in trucks.

its funny that you say the actual gear ratio that is stock with my truck with a 10 tooth pinion, its 12. 1 and with a 12 tooth its 11.1 ratio... i just won a speed gems 15 turn motor on ebay for $5.50 brand new in package we will see here in a matter of a few days.......... ill let ya know how things go!

I'm not saying anything about the gear ratios in your truck, I'm talking about gear ratios in trucks in general.

i understand what you are saying Gary, i was just mentioning that my gear ratio was exactly what you had mentioned thats all.
Also i found out yesterday that my ESC can handle a 3 cell lipo
HAHA i dont know how long the brushes are going to last but she sure is faster with this battery! lol i can tell this motor isnt going to last long.. but she is just for BASHIN around
