Bridges in Boise

Postby DiamondMox » Fri Nov 10, 2006 9:27 am

Here is a video I made for the current AV challenge on RCGroups:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 7829&hl=en

Here is the post that I made on the forum about the video:
Here's my contribution. The good thing about living in a city that spans a river, there are lots of bridges to shoot. When coming up with an idea for this competition, I thought that I would start at one end of the city and just go down the river shooting each of the bridges and then put it all together. I called it good after the third flight. The reason should be clear enough when you see it.

The 2nd and 3rd flights were shot about 1/2 hour apart. The wind was blowing about 15mph that day. I would have waited for a better day, but it's been rainy and crummy for days and I didn't know if I would get another day without clouds. If you are paying attention on the second landing, you can see the wind stop my plane dead in the air and shift it about 4 ft to the right when I am only about 15ft up. I am really glad that my plane has such a large wing and slow flight characteristics.

P.S. I don't know why, but on exporting my vid editing software left a gap and put itself down the right side of the frame. Never see it happen before, but I can't figure it out and I am tired or re-exporting it. See if you can guess what it is. :D

41% of the votes

By the way. You owe me some time. I watched all those videos and do have to say you have the best video. When you are flying along the bridges you follow the line of the bridge which the others did not do as good as you. Your composition is fantastic. Your video editing is superior to the others. It was difficult to watch the other videos all the way through.

What I did like about the one video is someone still uses an Aiptek SD cam

The heli and the rail road bridge was interesting due to his composition. Low flying and low shots of the above area.

Very nice video. Good fly by of the railroad bridge! With a downlink and a cameraman, you'd be the king of AP. Maybe over Christmas break I'll work on a transmitter for you.. I'd love to see some pan/tilt video.

What about down the river/along the cliffs near the diversion dam? I would recommend during spring/early summer, though.

By come up with an idea, I ment it falls on me to pick the theme/topic for the next challenge. The winner picks for the next challenge. My current idea was to see what people could do with the classic movie pan up where you see ground/sea/something skimming by and then the camer pans up to reveal a skyline or sometihng.

How about vehicles? Follow a moving vehicle for a while, fly around it stationary, etc.. kinda like a car commercial.

The cliffs sounds like a neat idea, just watch out for turbulance!

HAHAHAHA. That is funny. People are SO uptight.

Though, the discussion gave me a good idea... out where we go shooting, you can get cars going down that road.. do a flyby of a car coming at you, type thing... You are out on the National Guard shooting range... so I don't think you can get in trouble. :-) It would be kind of cool to see some 4x4 action up in the mountains, too, via flybys. :-)

Man.. I thought that could be a cool subject. And I did assume the photographer would be using some kind of intelligence and shoot a subject that knows they're being shot. I thought that was requisite for any photographer (that the subject, if recognizable, has given consent to be photographed). I think many of them are just afraid to meet the challenge is all. It is a little harder to do, but not impossible at all. If they have space to fly a plane, they have space to video a vehicle. What nutcases.
