Anyone interested in running RC boats? I'm a 1:8 scale hydro hobbyist looking for anyone else who runs boats.

Welcome to BoiseRC

How long have you been running boats ? Do you run electric or gas and where do you run them at ?

I’ve been running boats for about 10 years. I have 8 boats 3 of which are in running condition. Some still in the box from Dumas, all nitro. I am a big fan of 1/8 scale hydros and the only place I have run them is the ponds at Emmett. I’m always looking for a closer place. I need a pond at least as big as a football field. These boats can cover a lot of water.

Ever since I started this site I have tried to figure out why there are not more boat people around here. The only thing that I can come up with lack of water where one can participate.

Have you ever run your boats here in Boise ?

I would like to sail a sail boat at Kathryn Albertsons park and run electric boats at Quinns pond and veterans pond. I have never seen anyone at these locations with boats.

I would also like to know how many people have boats here in the valley ?

Do you have any ideas.suggestions ?

There is a lot of boats in the area the problem is finding a place to run thats big enough and u don't have to mess with the animal, conservationist, nut cases. is the place in emmett big enough for your boats now. if it is then you have the start to a good location for
guys to come to

The ponds in Emmett work well. There are a lot of people fishing and I always give them plenty of room. There are three ponds there and I usually load up my raft and canoe and paddle to the second pond and set up. This is not very convenient for me. Last night I was looking at Black Creek reservoir out by the BARKS flying field. This seems like it might work. You can drive right up to the pond. I’m not sure if this pond dries up in the late summer. I will check out these other ponds you mentioned but my guess is the Boise area ponds have been banned or will as soon as we start. I think the way to go would be to organize and become a member of APBA. This would provide our new club with insurance and guidelines that might be a selling point to people at the city who could allow us a place to run.

We had races in Boise and some surrounding areas but always got asked not to come back. Even when we had permission from parks. Don't waste time in this area. It would be great to have a more perm set up. Just take a little more wrk. iv run some elecs here in Ontario wrd here though they don't like gas--(too bad) PM me we talk :D

I took a look at the Boise lakes mentioned. Looks possible but not ideal. To get to a shoreline where I could launch I would have to rig up some sort of rolling cart for my loads of support equipment. The ponds in Emmett remain the best alternative.

I am a big fan of 1/8 scale hydros and the I have one Rc boat.I am always looking for a closer place. I need a pond at least as big as a football field. These boats can cover a lot of water. They are generally less expensive, easier to maintain, and easier to control. These RC boats are a good way to get out on the water with an RC for the first time.Electrics are usually less expensive to buy, require a little less maintenance than a nitro or gas boat, and can be easier to control.
The quality of the carro armato radiocomandato is best.

I have been building model boats for years and am currently working on a series of Chesapeake bay work boats put out by Wye River Models. next summer I plan to start work on the Chesapeake Bay Buy Boat. the model plans are done in 3/8 scale and I plan on transposing them to 5/8 scale and making the model an RC boat. But, I need a little help. I can find drive trains for comparable size model trawlers and tug boat models, but little information on what type of RC transmitter and controllers are needed, as near as I can figure I need to be able to do the following, Throttle, transmission fwd/rev, rudder, do I need a two or four channel RC unit for that and will I need additional channels to turn on running and deck lights? I plan to use two Li ion batteries which can be wired either in 6V parallel or in series for 12V but am unsure what the relative advantages are for either system. Any help would be welcome.
