Piaget 3D EPP

Postby jeffmcclain » Sun Feb 01, 2009 3:16 pm

Just got my Piaget from Hobby City last week. Final build weight (sans battery) was just under 8oz. I think I used too much glue...grin. This plane flies circles around my other ones. I'm very jazzed to start playing with 3D foamies. I can pop over to my little 200'x300' park just across the street and have a blast doing stall turns back and forth and getting better at 3D hovers. Elevators and waterfalls are super precise and the build was just great!

 Thats looks like a great buy.

What are those things on the wings and are they needed?

Do you fly with or without the landing gear?

What kind of glue did you use ?

they are called drag plates to keep the plane at one constant flying speed no speeding up in dives ect easier to fly F3P indoor contests all the new indoor planes have them

Well then thats called cheating

I dont really understand how this concept works. How can something that has a non adjustable angle of interference at a given speed maintain speed at an increased angle of decent without a change interference angle.

your right it is CHEATING but its legal in ama events, they work great though you should check out a few videos to see how they work

video of F3P indoor without plates

with plates

can you see the difference in flight characteristics?
weight also helps most F3p indoor planes are around 3 to 4.5 oz

alot of pilots and builders are actually milling out 3mm depron to make them lighter

That is a huge difference. So much for my stupid theory  It still really makes no sense even though I have seen it.

When is your next 3D. You have flying skills like that. You could compete. You also have the building skills and understanding for your own models.

I remember a couple of years ago you and I talking about lightening up small airframes like that but strength was always an issue.

i would really need somewhere to fly consistanyly indoor and build a plane what was light with some decent electronics and when i say decent i mean LIGHT all up airframe to weigh around 4 oz with battery ect and i would think about it... as for strength people are using dental floss or string for supports on the wings and down the fuse like trusses pretty cool stuff actually...

but ive pretty much gotten rid of all my airplane stuff and building a brushless E REVO for this summers outdoor races hee hee

Yup...all of those posts are correct. If you want some more video of how this Piaget flies, check out the video I've got up at my site at http://flightsim.velociworks.com and there is also a lot of comments on the build on the Piaget. Yes, I fly with the gear on. It is very springy and stable and the way it crosses through the fuse and glues, it is part of the wing support and the carbon fiber actually flexes pretty good. I love this plane. I'm learning so much about light 3D foam flight. Most of the milled 3mm planes are under 4.5oz, like diamond mentioned. Check out Fancy Foam models at http://stores.homestead.com/fancyfoam/- ... Detail.bok There is some good F3P video in there.

ive built and flown a few sub 5oz 3d planes, my favorite still to date is the nikitis animal!
it was 5.2oz AUW! but had awsome power with a handwound cd rom motor. Im looking at the new YAK 54 that just came out reading and hearing great things about it. I was interested in the PIAGET but to be honest i dont like epp foam, its flexable and to me atleast doesnt have the feel of a depron plane in the air.
still this doesnt mean i wouldnt try one out.
