Aerosense (a Sony UAV focused venture) showed off a new quadcopter that uses Sony’s QX30. To me, this is a pretty interesting way to put a camera on UAV. These are essentially small lenses with a cmos sensor attached. They are pretty “dumb” in that they really don’t do everything a normal camera does, even a GoPro. They are designed to use a cell phone as your camera body and do framing and looking through the “lens” from it. That means, there is less weight, and what weight there is, goes to a better quality lens and sensor.
This quadcopter is being aimed at the commercial market, weighing in at 6.6 lbs and having a 15-20 minute flight time.
